We were out to dinner tonight with one of my best friends who is home for a while from Bahrain with his girlfriend.
They are not back in Ireland often so we were looking forward to catching up with them. It was great to meet the girlfriend as well as she is relatively new on the scene and the last time we met her was last Christmas when she was brought to our home to meet us for the first time while we were in the depths of shock after Littlegirls death. I think it was a baptism of fire for her to be landed into such a shocking atmosphere during her first visit to Ireland.
Due to the complete melt down of the Irish economy restaurants here in Dublin are offering great value at the moment so we had a really well executed meal this evening – I’m talking proper salad Nicoise with perfectly boiled egg, seared tuna and great anchovies here, among other fine dishes!
Most pleasing though was the fact that our friends asked us all about Littlegirl and how we were getting on since her death. It really put us at ease to be able to talk about her. It also allowed the conversation to move on naturally to other subjects without the awkardness that Irishmam and I might feel if the whole Littlegirl ‘situation’ wasn’t mentioned.
That’s all I have to say. There’s a replay of a Stone Roses gig from 1989 on the TV at the moment, so I’m enjoying that with a glass of wine.
